Delivered duty paid — nothing to pay on arrival
Afriqex ships DDP (Incoterms® 2020). Afriqex is the seller and the importer of record, and handles export clearance from Kenya, UK import, customs duty and import VAT.
There is nothing further to pay when your delivery arrives. You will not receive a customs invoice, a duty demand or a carrier handling charge — a common and unwelcome surprise when buying ingredients direct from origin, and the reason Afriqex takes the import on itself.
Where goods ship from and to
- Origin: Kenya
- Destination: Great Britain
- Seller: Afriqex Ltd
- Importer of record: Afriqex Ltd
- Incoterm: DDP, to the delivery address on your order
- Carrier: Aramex, or another approved courier
Delivery charges
Delivery is charged separately from the goods and is shown before you place the order, so you always see the landed cost rather than discovering it later. UK VAT applies to the delivery charge at the same rate as the goods it carries, because it forms part of the same supply.
How long it takes
Each order carries its own estimate, confirmed before you commit, because the total depends on the producer as much as the carrier. The time is made up of:
- Producer lead time — how long the supplier needs to prepare and release the batch. This is the part that varies most, and for a seasonal botanical it can dominate the rest.
- Collection and export clearance in Kenya.
- Air transit to Great Britain.
- UK customs clearance, handled by Afriqex.
- Final delivery by the carrier to your address.
Estimates are estimates. Collection, export clearance, customs, inspections, missing documentation, carrier disruption, weather and industrial action can all move a date, and we will tell you when we know rather than when you ask.
Consignment limits and restricted goods
Air freight caps what can move in a single consignment, so a large order may be split across shipments or quoted separately. Where an order exceeds the limit for a single shipment, we will tell you before you commit rather than after.
Some ingredients are classified as dangerous goods for air transport — several essential oils are flammable liquids — and move only where the carrier accepts them, with the correct classification, packing and documentation. Where a material cannot be shipped by air to your address, we will say so rather than accept an order we cannot fulfil.
When something goes wrong in transit
Please check your delivery on arrival. Visible damage, leakage, shortages, incorrect items or a delivery problem should reach us within 48 hours — carrier claims close quickly, and a late report can make a problem impossible to resolve in your favour. See Returns & Refunds for what happens next.
